What requirements must medical wastewater comply with before being discharged into the environment?

Medical wastewater contains many toxic substances and can be dangerous to human health and the environment if not treated properly. Therefore, before being discharged into the environment, medical wastewater must comply with the following requirements:

1. Must be collected and treated on site: Medical wastewater must be collected and treated on site, avoiding direct discharge into the environment.
2. Must go through a treatment process: Before being discharged into the environment, medical wastewater must be treated by methods such as using a wastewater treatment system, using disinfectant chemicals, or using UV light sterilization techniques to destroy bacteria, viruses, and other toxic substances.
3. Must meet standards: Medical wastewater must meet environmental, health, labor safety and disease prevention standards before being discharged into the environment. In Vietnam, medical wastewater before being discharged into the environment must meet QCVN 28:2010/BTNMT National technical regulation on medical wastewater  - General Department of Environment, Department of Science and Technology and Department of Legal Affairs submitted for approval and issued under Circular No. 39/2010/TT-BTNMT dated December 16, 2010 of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.
4. Must be monitored: The medical wastewater treatment process needs to be closely monitored and controlled to ensure that it meets environmental and human health requirements.
5. Compliance with regulations: All government regulatory agencies' regulations and guidelines regarding the handling, transportation, and disposal of medical wastewater must also be fully complied with.

+ Equalization tank:  Contains collected wastewater

+ Booster pump: The booster pump has the effect of sucking wastewater from the equalization tank and pushing it through the rear modules with a stable flow.

+ Filter No. 1 : Contains particles that adsorb toxic substances and microorganisms.

• It has the following effects: deodorizing, absorbing toxic substances, removing dirt, absorbing heavy metals dissolved in water, thoroughly cleaning dissolved organic substances. + Second filter : Contains heavy metal treatment beads, exchanges and removes ammonia

• This is the optimal method in the process of treating medical wastewater. This method is used to remove salts, remove hardness (Calcium), remove nitrate, remove color, remove residual heavy metal ions and other metal ions in medical wastewater. The ion exchange method is very environmentally friendly because it only absorbs substances available in water.

+ Disinfection equipment : Here, water will be completely destroyed of viruses and bacteria before being discharged into the environment.
