- Must be collected and treated on site: Medical wastewater must be collected and treated on site, avoiding direct discharge into the environment.
- Must go through a treatment process: Before being discharged into the environment, medical wastewater must be treated by methods such as using a wastewater treatment system, using disinfectant chemicals, or using UV light sterilization techniques to destroy bacteria, viruses, and other toxic substances.
- Must meet standards: Medical wastewater must meet environmental, health, labor safety and disease prevention standards before being discharged into the environment. In Vietnam, medical wastewater before being discharged into the environment must meet QCVN 28:2010/BTNMT National technical regulation on medical wastewater - General Department of Environment, Department of Science and Technology and Department of Legal Affairs submitted for approval and issued under Circular No. 39/2010/TT-BTNMT dated December 16, 2010 of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.
- Must be monitored: The medical wastewater treatment process needs to be closely monitored and controlled to ensure that it meets environmental and human health requirements.
